The Golf Club of Texas- A Brief History
The Golf Club of Texas opened its doors first in 2000. Designed by Lee Trevino the course became a favorite among San Antonio Golfers.
The course closed its doors in 2013, after playing conditions deteriorated during the multi-year drought.
It didn’t take long for those in the golfing community in Texas to realize the potential of The Golf Club of Texas.
In 2014 construction began to rebuild, redesign, and reopen The Golf Club of Texas. Architect Roy Bechtol was brought in to do some minor changes. The course was also lengthened slightly to 7121. Numerous tee boxes were also added so that players can play the length of course they desire.
The greatest improvement however is the addition of Zoysia grass. Zoysia is the premier playing surface available in the world and is used by the most elite courses on the planet…including the 2016 Olympics Course in Brazil.
The Golf Club of Texas is the first Tee to Green Zoysia grassed course in the United States. Based on current projects being built worldwide, it appears the Golf Club of Texas, has broken new ground.
